Are you wondering how you should pose naturally at your next photo shoot session? If you’re looking for a more candid and natural feel like you had no idea there was a photographer shooting you, these tips will definitely help you achieve that.
Being in front of the camera can be intimidating. I get it. You think you have to act a certain way or look a certain way for it to be perfect. BUT, the more you don’t act or look perfect, the better.
The camera will capture the “trying too hard” look and the “fixing myself” look and the “is this too tight, I’m so uncomfortable” look.
Try these tips below and I promise you will have a more relaxed, natural, easy, and super fun session.
This is one of the biggest helps for posing naturally in wedding images and engagement sessions! You get comfortable with the camera, your photographer learns what you like and who you are as a couple, and you have no time restrictions to get comfortable with the camera.
If you choose a photographer who likes to pose couples and has a more editorial style, you will get exactly that. If you choose a photographer that likes to capture candid moments, they will help you become relaxed and capture natural moments.
These pictures are for you. Don’t think about it like, “let’s get dressed up and have professional photos taken in a beautiful setting.” Think about it like this: “Hey babe you wanna go on a cool date to a waterfall and have our friend take some quick pics of us?” You’re not posing for VOGUE. You’re just capturing this amazing time in your life so you can look back on the memories. Just pose naturally and enjoy the photo session.
If you keep trying to fix yourself, your pics are going to look like you’re fixing yourself. If there is something amiss, your photographer will tell you.
For engagements, definitely wear something you’re comfortable in. The more comfortable you are, the less you will be thinking about: is it too tight, do I look uncomfortable, blah blah blah. The more you can pose naturally at your photoshoot session.
Ask the photographer to take pictures from far away first, so you can get used to being in the setting and being with each other with someone else around. Forget about the camera and think about your next trip together, what you both want for your future, the anticipation of seeing each other on the big day, a favorite memory you both share – anything that brings you happiness.
Don’t worry where the photographer is. If they need you to move around, they will tell you. You be you with your person.
Well, I had to put this as one of the helpful tips. If you really feel anxious about the whole thing, bring a couple glasses and start with a toast! Or have some tea on a blanket on the beach.
Make a playlist of all the songs you love together. Fast ones, slow ones, your top 10 favs and play them for your session. This is an element I love to incorporate. Gives the session a whole new feel.
One thing I love to do is to laugh and make things light in my sessions. So nibble each other’s necks, play ring around the rosie, have a tickle fight, and just have FUN!!
There's something surreal about elopeing in a distant land with just a few people by your side.
