SETTING BOUNDARIES

Setting Boundaries and Why You Need Them

WHAT IS SETTING BOUNDARIES AND WHY DO YOU NEED THEM?

When you have boundaries, you are taking care of your mental health, and you are giving time to your family and to yourself. Without boundaries, we feel depleted, overwhelmed, burnt out, taken advantage of, or intruded upon.

The benefits of boundaries are:

  1. Get clear on who you are, what you want, and your values and belief systems.
  2. Bring focus on yourself and your well-being.
  3. Enhance your mental health and emotional well-being.
  4. Avoid burnout.
  5. Avoid resentment with clients
  6. Reduces the overwhelm of everyday life

Setting boundaries:

Envision the life you want to have and ask yourself these questions:

  • What does life look like daily?
  • What do I want my life to look like every day?
  • How many days am I working?
  • What does my morning routine look like?
  • what does my evening routine look like?
  • Do you give time to yourself?
  • When do you give time to your family?
  • When do I start work and shut down work?
  • How can I consistently shut off work each day?
  • How can I give time to myself and my family each day?

Staying creative as a photographer is important, but it’s not always easy to be creative as a photographer 100% of the time. Here are my tips to stay creative!

Learn to say NO

One of the hardest things you will ever have to do in business is saying NO. Setting up your life to have boundaries that you give to yourself and your family will create more space to enjoy the little things and will create more space for your creativity. It will give you the freedom to explore new opportunities or just the freedom to be in the moment. Choose business opportunities that bring your joy and excitement. If it doesn’t excite you in some way, say NO.

Stick to your ME time

If you have a specific time for yourself every day or every week, stick to it and stay consistent. Self-care refreshes your creativity, energy, and mental capacity to take on more things in life. Do NOT skip your ME time.

Clock out at the same time each day

When it’s time to shut down from work, turn off your computer, put away your phone, and CLOCK OUT. Don’t keep checking your phone or rush back to finish something on your computer after dinner. When you clock out, be present in what you’re doing next – having dinner with your spouse or family, cooking dinner, doing yoga, or meditation, and being FULLY present without distractions.
